Pietrasanta restaurant - 14 Jan 2010
Was at Pietrasanta for lunch to welcome the new year. We had a piatto di salumi (traditional italian cold cuts), fried anchovies, aglio olio and medium rare lamb chop. Every dish was superd. My lunch kaki ended up paying for lunch as he got promoted to equity partner in his law firm. Congrats MC ;-). It was his first time there and he definitely is going to bring his wife there.
Jia Xiang mee pok lunch at Vivo city
I am live blogging while eating Jia Xiang mee pik at Vivo City. A first for me. I am hungry and being alone was looking for a quick fix lunch. Walked into Jia Xiang Sarawak restaurant and ordered the mee pok.

This is tasty and shiok. The mee pok is dried but QQ. It goes very well with the char siew but the two wantons are a tad small. The slash of pork lard give the mee lots of flavour. Love it.

Welcome 2010 lunch with buddies at Tatsuya
Went to Tatsuya for lunch with my two buddies, AL and AK, to welcome the first work week of the new year. We were served the new year omakase menu. We were a bit disappointed that there was no fresh supplies today as the Japanese market was still closed. Atmosphere was a bit quiet. Maybe their frequent customers are still holidaying or on leave. But it was easily 80% full.
The new year omakase was different from their normal omakase offering but it was as good and delicious.
Took a few photos of the New Year dishes. I am not familiar with these dishes and did not ask Goh san what they were. But I made a "guesstimate" below. Hopefully I am not far off.

Black soya beans in sweet sauce;
white and pink kamaboko (pureed white fish)
Takenoko (bamboo shoot), freshly cut tuna cubes
and a huge boiled tiger prawn
Grilled yellow tail
Tatsuya fantastic nigiri sushi
A piece of mochi (rice cake), 2 slices of bacon,
renkon and komatsuna in clear soup.

Not Feeling Well
So did you enjoy the New Year long weekend? Not so cos I was not feeling well. Must have caught a virus somewhere. Had a big head and neck ache, slight fever, sore throat, some slight cramps on my legs. A few of my friends and colleagues were also having the same problems.
I decided to have my own prescription and sleep over it -
(a) Used cold pack to bring down the slight fever - effective!
(b) Took 2 strong panadols to kill the aches - effective!
(c) Lots of sleep and water - effective!
(d) Got mum to boil her version of TCM sore throat killer - effective!
By the second day, I was almost recovered. Mum decided to do another round of the TCM sore throat killer. I did a check of the ingredients she mixed to conjure up this sore throat killer. These were mainly Chinese herbs but, gosh, she also included a few big dried black bees!!! YES, BIG DRIED BLACK BEES. I do not have any idea how these bees contributed to the cure but so long as it cures my sore throat which had made eating (and swallowing saliva) a bit of a pain, who cares?
